New Membership Levels offer rainbow of options |
On April 1st, the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce adopted a new membership level structure based upon the colors in the rainbow. The new levels bring the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce into line with the membership structure and cost of other area chambers and allow members opportunities to take advantage of a number of new benefits, including more networking and educational events and advertising in the monthly e-letter, Spectrum, and other Chamber publications and promotions. The Basic "PURPLE" Membership is our low-cost $75 level, which includes a listing in our website Member Directory and FREE admission to monthly mixers.

Former Foster Youth Receives 1st RCCF Leadership Award |
Montana Hull, 18, a former foster youth who overcame enormous obstacles to become a successful student and leader, received the first Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Foundation Youth Leadership Award. Foundation President Josh Jacoby presented Hull with the award at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center's 17th Annual Lambda Awards presentation on March 23. Chamber President Fred Palmer served as Master of Ceremonies. The Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Foundation contributed $2,500 to support mental health and youth services at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center. Lambda Awards 2009 raised nearly $20,000 for Center programs and services, a fundraising record for the event. The festivities included a live auction under the direction of Dave Sobon of Maximum Benefits Auctions, which garnered two $2,500 matches to the RCC Foundation contribution, both from Wells Fargo’s community giving program. The Foundation, which was established in 2007 as a non-profit organization for the purpose of providing mentoring, guidance, and education, and to provide assistance to improve the quality of life of the GLBT community, awarded two $1,000 educational scholarships in 2008. Hull entered the foster system at age 11, then lived in 15 homes and attended eight different high schools in a three-year period, before being adopted in 2007 by moms Jen and Minet through Sierra Adoption Services. Today, Hull is a successful senior at Sacramento Charter High School, where he participates in track, volleyball, varsity cheerleading and Student Senate. He is carrying a 3.0 grade point average and was recently accepted to Sacramento State University. Also honored at Lambda Awards 2009 were: - Sen. Sheila Kuehl, recipient of the Timothy Warford Leadership Award, presented by Assemblymember John Pérez
