Annual Financial Report 2009

Gail Mancarti, President, Board of Directors

2009 has been a year of change for our Center and you have been a welcomed and significant part of it. Over the course of this past year the Board of Directors has focused on revitalizing the Center for the decade ahead. With the assistance of our interim Executive Director Bill Otton, dedicated volunteers, and community members like you, a bright future awaits us.

This Annual Report demonstrates some of the changes that have occurred. We will offer this report every year as a way of communicating what we’ve done in serving our LGBTQI community. Highlights for 2009 were:

  • a fun Lambda Awards dinner honoring individuals who have contributed to the welfare of our community,

  • the biggest ever Sacramento Pride parade and festival,

  • upgrading the Center with a new reception area, and

  • a successful Fall fund drive that matched a $10,000 challenge from a Center volunteer.

We look forward to an exciting 2010 as we take the next step in being a Center for all our community. Please visit us soon!

William G. Otton, Interim Executive Director

Welcome to a new decade and new year! It is a pleasure to be the interim Executive Director at this moment in our history and have the opportunity to help launch new processes that enable you to understand how the Center operates, and where we are headed. This Annual Report is an example of how the Center is committed to reaching out to all members of our community and sharing our progress.

Thank you to each person, business and granting agency that helped us complete 2009 with revenues exceeding expenses. Many of these gifts were the result of an end of year membership and donor drive. As you might already know, ending the year in the “black” is considered a plus when granting agencies are considering our funding applications.

To quickly understand the Center’s financial position we have prepared four charts. Two charts focus on 2009 financials – actual income and expense; and, two charts focus on 2010 financials – budgeted income and expense. On the income side we have kept the total budgeted amount for 2010 similar to 2009. However we have revised the percent allocation among each category. To adjust to economic realities in this new year there will be more focus on individual donations and corporate sponsorships and less on government and foundation grants. On the expense side there will be no change to allocation of funds for youth, adult, and community programs.

Center leadership is enthused as we look forward to this new year, a new Executive Director and a new location for Sacramento Pride. It truly is a time when many changes are occurring, however, we believe these changes will bring new attention to the community and the Center. In addition to an ambitious plan to make Sacramento Pride a much more visible celebration, we are also finalizing a new vision statement that will be the result of a cross section of community, volunteer, and staff working together to state what the Center will be in the future.

This year, we continue our commitment to youth and adult in-house programs. We also want to increase our role as a community partner that serves the health, political, business, humanitarian and cultural aspects of our community. Building positive collaborations with organizations, special interest groups and businesses across the community will benefit all of us.

2010 is off to a positive start and we hope your involvement and interest in the Center will continue throughout the year. We have a bright future as we build a strong foundation, bring in new members and donors, add staff, and continue existing programs and new initiatives that makes our community even better than it is today.
